Her Wings Appeared: Women’s Stories of Courage, Love, Loss, and Becoming is a collection of true stories from women who have loved, lost, grieved, been afraid, made difficult choices, let go, begun again, and discovered something about themselves along the way.

Few of the women are experienced writers. Most are not. What they share is a willingness to tell the truth about moments in their lives that changed them...and about what they can see now that they couldn’t see then.

The book grew from a friendship between Diana Soroka and Alison Benjamin and from an image Ali had been drawing for more than twenty years: a goddess who appeared again and again in her artwork, always without wings. Then one day, the wings appeared.

That goddess became the thread running through this book.

Because these aren’t stories about women who have everything figured out. They’re stories about women living their lives and becoming themselves in the process. Sometimes courage looked like staying. Sometimes it meant leaving. Sometimes it was speaking up, letting go, loving someone through the impossible, or finally listening to themselves.

And sometimes, like Ali’s goddess, we don’t recognize our own wings until they’ve already appeared.

Meet the Authors and Artist

Ali Benjamin is an artist, poet, and writer whose original artwork is woven throughout Her Wings Appeared. Raised in England, Ali has spent much of her life exploring creativity, spirituality, and the feminine through words and images. The goddess who appears throughout this book has been part of her art for more than twenty years.

Diana Soroka is a writer, longtime educator, and founder of WILDD Hearts. Her work centers on the stories women carry - the heartbreaks, choices, relationships, losses, laughter, and experiences that shape who we become. She believes there is tremendous power in telling the truth about the lives we have actually lived.

Together, Ali and Diana created Her Wings Appeared as a celebration of women’s stories, art, and the many ways we find our way back to ourselves.

Dr. Alison J. Benjamin

For over 20 years, Alison has been a pioneering voice in the human potential movement, passionately advocating for mindfulness, healing, and personal awakening. Through her teaching, coaching, and keynote presentations, she shares an empowering message of overcoming life’s challenges, healing from trauma and loss, activating authentic power, and unlocking creative energy.

Diana Soroka

With more than 30 years in education and personal and professional development, I have walked beside a lot of humans... students, teachers, leaders, and everyday women... guiding countless people through their own growth. My path has been anything but straight. It has held big love, deep loss, single motherhood, new careers, new states, and a whole lot of learning in between. Over time I have learned that real growth usually happens in the messy, unplanned moments, not the polished ones.
